Cold Game

The boys were playing soccer in the middle of winter. Yes, you read that right. Who's idea was this? Take a guess. That's right. Artemis was bored again. He suggested that the house play soccer. Noiz gave him a confused look.

"But it's December," she said.

"So?" he asked. "We need to get out more! Take on the world!" Noiz rolled her eyes. More like you are bored and you're friends at the country club rejected you again. She decided to say that out loud.

"More like you are bored and you're friends at the country club rejected you again," Noiz said. Artemis stared at her with big eyes.

"You can't mean that!" he wailed.

"Yes, I do," she said. The man looked like his was going to cry. The kitty rolled her eyes.

"Idiot," she muttered under her breath. So now, here everyone was playing soccer outside. Noiz herself sat on the side, frowning in her winter gear. This is so stupid. The kitty rolled her eyes. She turned her head when she heard someone sitting next to her.

"Oh," she said. Mosh raised his eyebrow at her.

"You're not going to play?" he asked.

"No," she said. "You?" Mosh shook his head.

"Nah," he said.

"He's just bored again because his friends at the country club won't let him join."

"So that's what that is."

"Yeah." They watched the other guys play. "How's Perry doing?"

The mouse boy groaned. "Do I have to talk about him?" Noiz shrugged.

"No. I'm just making small talk."

"Hm."

"So how is he?"

"Fine."

"So boring as ever?"

"Yep."

One of the team's kicked the ball into the goal. Dodge pumped his fists in the air. The scoreboard changed from three to four on his time. Noiz rubbed her hands together in her thick black gloves.

"How long are we going to be out here?" she asked.

"I guess until the game is finished," Mosh said.

"And when will that be?" the kitty asked.

"I have no idea," he said. Noiz rubbed on her stomach.

"What to get something to eat?" she asked.

"Think anyone will notice?" Mosh asked. The couple looked at the player's on the field. The boys looked deeply intense in their game. They looked like they were ready to start round two. Noiz and Mosh looked at each other.

"They won't miss us," Noiz said.

"No," Mosh said. The couple stood up and slipped away from the bleachers.

"Think we should go back after we get something to eat?" Mosh asked.

"Why?" Noiz asked. The mousy boy shrugged.

"I don't know," he said.

"There's your answer," she said. The two of walked down the dry grassy path as it started to snow.
