Fair Love

Kurai lay on the deck, reaching for the sky. “I am so bored!” Akitada looked out at the dock. His lover rolled over her stomach.

“Baby, I’m bored!” she complained. The angel mouse turned his head.

“Hm?” he asked. Kurai frowned.

“Entertain me!” she complained. “I am so bored!”

“I heard you the first time,” Akitada said. Kurai whimpered with her arms folded across her chest.

“Entertain me!” she said.

“But how?” the angel mouse asked. His girl puffed up her cheeks. She rolled onto her back. Akitada turned back to the sea. The gulls in the sky provided a soft melody of the autumn morning. This felt better than heaven. Quiet days with your lover were perfect. He could take in her beauty and enjoy life.

Then Kurai sat up. Her face lit up as she remembered something. The demon kitty pounced on her lover. Akitada whipped his head around.

“Kurai…-chan?” he asked. The demon kitty grinned.

“Come with me!” she said. “I just remembered my favorite place.”

“What?” the mouse angel asked. Kurai giggled as she wrapped her arms around his body. They vanished before he could say a word.

The couple appeared on dry land. Akitada looked around. Everything appeared so dull with greys and whites. Empty stalls stood on either side of them. Only the wind blowing around them made sounds. The sky looked like it was going to rain. Kurai smiled as she took in the scenery around her.

“Where are we?” Akitada asked. His lover turned to him.

“My favorite place,” she said. Kurai held out her arms. “Welcome to the Lost Carnival!” The angel mouse gave her an odd look.

“Okay…” he said. “Then why are we here?” Kurai squeezed his hands.

“Don’t ask questions!” she said. “Go with it.” Akitada blinked at her.

“Okay…” he said.

“Good,” his lover said. Kurai held out her arms.

“Ha ta chung long!” she chanted. “Ha ta chung long!” Tine pixies lit up around her. Akitada stared mouth agape as they flew towards the sky. Each one grew brighter. Kurai began grinning. Her pixies exploded one by one. Their dust landed on the ruined scenery around them. Bright pink lights swallowed everything whole. In a flash, the light disappeared. The demon kitty smirked.

“Take a look around you,” she said. Akitada did so and gasped. Everything lit up and came to life. The booths’ food teased the mouse’s nose. Kurai smiled at the playful music floated through the air. Cloud-like people enter the fair grounds. The demon kitty breathed in the excitement. The whole place was fully alive. Kurai held out her hand.

“Come with me!” she said. “A world of delight awaits you!” Akitada gave her an awkward smile as he took her hand. His lover giggled as she dragged him deeper into the glowing crowd. She let the carnival music lead the way. The angel mouse could hear the ocean blended in the background.

“Did you make this for us?” he asked. Kurai turned and only winked.

“Can you do this more often?”

“Maybe…”

“What shall we do first?”

“Up to you, babe.”

A sweat drop formed on the angel mouse’s head. “I knew you would say that.” Still, Akitada didn’t complain. She did make this world for them. He could tell she made it with her heart and love.

“Can we go on the high swings first?” Akitada asked. Kurai turned to him with a grin.

“We can do that my prince,” she said. The couple ran over to the swings that stood proud to the sky.
