London Wedding

Noiz got an e-mail from a person that she thought she would never hear from again.

“Hm?” she asked. After determining that it wasn’t spam, but an actual e-mail, the kitty girl clicked on the message. Her eyes grew wide.

“Professor Cook?” she asked. Noiz read the e-mail with her mouth agape.

Dear Noizchild,

You are invited to the wedding of Sarah Cook and Robert Yorke. Set the date for October 10th, 2007 at 15:00. Formal attire. RSVP.

Noiz scrolled down to see the engaged couple’s picture. A little smile came onto her lips.

“Well I’ll be damned,” she said. “She finally found a man.” Judging by the look of him, he had to at least be Spanish or half. Noiz chuckled as she remembered her professor back into her university years. Sarah taught classical literature. She had an elegant reading voice. But, her lectures would go off on a tangent about her love life. Sarah would lament about how she couldn’t get a man. Sometimes it was funny and other times it was just pathetic. So good that she wouldn’t die alone like she cried about.

Noiz looked over at her calendar. “September 20th? Damn, that’s only three weeks away.” She looked around her room.

“I better start packing,” she said. The kitty replied to the invitation and hit “send”. Then, she leapt up from her seat and started packing.

---------

Noiz left a week before the wedding. She left lesson plans for the academy staff.

“I will be back the next day,” she told everyone in an e-mail. “Please behave until then.” And she was off to London.

When was the last time she was here? Two years? Three years? It felt so much longer. Who else did Sarah invite to the wedding? How were Alex, Serena, and Geoffrey doing? It would be a surprise to see them again. Noiz looked around the crowded airport. Where should she start? She pulled out her cell phone and dialed the first number she thought of.

“Hello?” a woman’s voice asked on the other line.

“Alex!” the kitty cheered.

“Noiz? Is that you?” the woman asked.

“Yep,” her old friend said. “I arrived in London for the wedding.”

“That wedding?”

“Yeah.”

“Yeah, the professor did say she was inviting you. But, I didn’t think you would actually show up.”

“I figured I might as well. What’s the guy like?”

“I don’t know. I haven’t met him myself.”

“What good are you?”

“Hey, I’m just as surprised as you are. So when are you coming by?”

Noiz looked around the airport for a clock. “Hm… About one o’clock.”

“Nice. Do you have a place to stay?”

“Not yet.”

“Come stay at our place. We’ll come to pick you up.”

“Cheers, mate. Love ya. Buh-bye.” Noiz smiled as she hung up. This was going to feel just like old times.

--------

Noiz and Alex met up at the terminal. The women embraced.

“How have you been?” Alex asked.

 “Great,” Noiz said. “And you?”

“I’ve been ace, but bored,” her friend said. The kitty looked around behind her.

“Where’s Steven?” she asked. Alex frowned on her shoulder.

“We’re over,” she said. Noiz turned her head.

“What?” she asked. “What happened?”

“I don’t want to talk about it,” her friend said. The kitty girl put her arm around her shoulders.

“There, there,” she said. “It’s okay. I’m sorry I brought it up.” Alex smiled and shook her head.

“It’s okay,” she said. The ladies headed out of the airport.

--------

Noiz and Alex made it back to Alex’s flat. To the kitty’s surprise, Sarah sat in the living room, watching cartoons.

“Professor?” Noiz asked, covering her mouth. The bride smiled and waved.

“Hello there,” she said.

“What are you doing here?” her former student asked. Sarah threw back her head and groaned.

“I had to get away from them,” she said.

“What?” Noiz asked.

“Mum and his family were driving me nuts with the wedding,” the bride said. “So, I called around to my former students and Alex let me stay here.” Noiz turned to her old friend. The blonde-haired woman shrugged and shook her head.

“Okay then…” Noiz mumbled. Sarah jumped up and spun around.

“This is going to be great!” she said. “It’s going to be all four of us together!” Noiz and Alex forced themselves to smile.

“Oh boy…” Noiz mumbled. Still, this shouldn’t be too bad, right? Just get through the wedding and everything will be fine.

-Day of the Wedding-

Noiz and Alex stood by the front door, dressed in their best. The kitty girl looked at her phone.

“Is she ready yet?” she asked.

“Professor!” Alex yelled.

“Hang on!” Sarah shouted back. “I’m coming! This dress is slowing me down.” Noiz sighed and dropped back her head. Thirty minutes later, Sarah came down the hallway. She looked like a fairy princess in her faded rose-colored wedding dress. Her train and veil could put Princess Diana to shame. She had dark purple and like pink flowers in her bouquet. The little lavenders in her long wavy brown hair added to the fairy princess look. Noiz whistled as her former professor approached the women.

“How do I look?” Sarah asked.

“Beautiful,” Alex said.

“Did you pick this design yourself?” Noiz asked.

“Why yes,” her former professor said. “I always wanted to wear this dress and veil for my wedding day.” The kitty girl nodded.

“I see,” she said. “Shall we get going?”

“Take me to my dream wedding,” the professor said. Alex and Noiz took her by the arms. The kitty girl took the bouquet before the ladies headed to the car. The wedding dress took up most of the room in the back seat of the limo. Sarah herself wouldn’t stop grinning. Noiz and Alex were just happy that their lovelorn professor was finally getting married.

“Think this will last?” Noiz whispered.

“Let’s hope it does,” Alex said back.

“What are you saying?” Sarah asked.

“Nothing,” her former students were quick to say. The bride sat back, smiling. This was her day and no one was going to ruin it!
