Misery

He leaves this morning. She hates it. Akitada embraced her.

“Please don’t cry,” he said. “I will be back. I promise.” It didn’t stop her tears.

“Don’t leave,” Kurai whimpered.

“I have to,” he said. “But I will be back.” The demon kitty sniffled.

“Okay,” she whimpered. They shared another kiss. Akitada released her from his grasp.

“I will be back,” the angel mouse said. “I promise.” He let go of her hands. Akitada stuck up his right hand. He disappeared into the sky. Kurai’s eyes filled with tears.

Akitada sat in the doctor’s office. A nurse walked into the room.

“Good morning,” she said.

“Good morning,” he said back. The angel mouse took off his shirt. The nurse blushed before getting to work. She took out her stethoscope and listened to his heart.

“Breathe,” she said. Akitada took a breath in. The nurse ran the tests for his health. She held her breath the whole time.

“Well?” Akitada asked. The nurse breathed a sigh of relief.

“Good,” she said. “Everything is good. It’s a good thing you came home in time.”

“I’m not home,” Akitada said in a low voice. The nurse turned around.

“Hm?” she asked. The angel mouse said nothing as he dressed and slid off the examining table.

“Akitada-kun?” the nurse asked. The door closed behind him.

Kurai looked pitiful. She wouldn’t get out of bed. Her demon friends couldn’t get her back into things she once loved.

“Come on,” one of them said. “You’ll probably find someone better than that angel mouse. Come on, let’s go!” Kurai turned over, frowning.

“I don’t want anyone else!” she wailed. “I want my Akitada-kun!”

“But why?” the demon asked.

“I love him!” the demon kitty wailed. Tears welled up in her eyes. The demon gave her a strange look.

“Okay then…” he said.

“Get out!” Kurai wailed.

“But…” the little demon said.

“Just get out!” she yelled. The demon kitty picked up a pillow and chucked it at the creature. The little demon vanished into thin air.  Kurai broke down crying.

Akitada walked up to Gabriel’s office and knocked on the door.

“Enter,” the older angel said. The angel mouse opened the door and walked inside. Gabriel sat at his desk.

“Ah, Akitada,” he said. “So good to see you.”

“You wanted to see me?” the angel mouse asked.

“Yes,” Gabriel said. “Please take a seat.”
