A New World Record

Today looks rather busy. Aisha marched up the heel with a proud smile on her face. She told in a breath of fresh air.

“Ah! It’s so beautiful outside today!” she said along.

“Shut up!” Clyde shouted behind her. Aisha turned and glanced over her shoulder. Clyde, Lewis, and Muriel dragged up the hill, lagging behind. They huffed and gagged as their bodies were covered in sweat. Clyde fell over to her knees on the grass.

“’Hat da hell?” she asked.

“Can we stop now?” Lewis asked. “My knees are killing me here!” Aisha turned to them with a smile on her face.

“Just two more kilometers,” she announced. “I’m not even breaking sweat!” Her friends groaned in their misery.

“Come on!” the former army wife shouted. “This is nothing! Get up!”

“Easy for you to say!” Muriel whined. “We’re old! We can’t do this!” Aisha sighed and shook her head.

“This won’t do,” she said. Aisha firmly clapped her hands. “Get up everyone!” she shouted. “We aren’t down with our laps yet! Move it! Move it!” Her friends groaned as she started to march again.

Liz sat on the porch, eating lemon ice. Clover walked over to her and took a seat.

“Have you picked out a university yet?” she asked. Her older sister glanced over at her.

“Huh?” she asked.

“Where are you going to university?” Clover asked again. Liz shook her head at her.

“Dunno,” she answered. Her younger sister blinked at her.

“You don’t know?” she asked.

“I don’t,” Liz answered. Clover narrowed her eyes at her. She shook her head with a frown. Her sister raised an eyebrow at her.

“What?” she asked.

“Nothing,” the younger one answered. “You’re just hopeless, that’s all.” Clover got up and walked back into the house. Liz blinked at her, confused.

“Okay then…” she mumbled as she eats up more lemon ice.

The old biddies marched into town. Aisha led the while the other three looked like they were going to pass out of the street.

“Why are we doing this?” Lewis complained.

“It’s good for you!” Aisha shouted.

“Are you crazy?” Lewis asked. “This is too much for us!”

“Nonsense!” the leader shouted. “This is all good for you!”

“Liar!” Clyde shouted. Aisha tried to ignore her as she marched further ahead. Lewis chuckled as she was slowly going mad.

“Think we can try and sneak off from her?” she whispered.

“Don’t push your luck,” Muriel whispered back. “She’s like a hawk, remember?” Lewis frowned to herself at those words.

“Good point,” she whispered back.

“Keep up back there!” Aisha shouted at the top of her lungs. The others reluctantly tried to pick up the pace.

Annie dusted around the Sunny Plum. Tucker buried his head in his hands on the counter, groaning. His wife looked over her shoulder.

“What’s the matter with you now?” she asked.

“My head hurts,” Tucker complained. His wife rolled her eyes.

“I told you not to drink so much last night,” she warned him. “We are always open by nine in the morning.” Tucker muttered something under his breath. Annie paused and looked up at her husband.

“What did you say?” she asked. Tucker looked up at her with red, tired eyes as she walked over to him.

“Shut up, woman,” he replied. Annie gritted her teeth and smacked him on the head.

“Ow!” he complained.

“Bastard,” his wife snapped. She stomped off to the kitchen. Tucker snorted to himself.

“Winch,” he muttered under his breath.

“I heard that!” Annie shouted.

“Good!” Tucker barked back. A wooden spoon hit him in the face, causing him more pain. The man whimpered to himself as the kitchen tool hit the counter.

The old biddies marched all the way to the library. Aisha turned to them with a huge grin on her face.

“Here we are!” she said aloud. The other three stared at her with the urge to stab her. Aisha blinked at them.

“What?” she asked.

“You marched us like that to come here?!” Lewis complained.

“That’s right!” their leader exclaimed.

“Why?!” the other three shouted. Aisha shrugged his shoulders.

“Isn’t it obvious?” she asked.

“No,” Clyde said.

“Morning marches like this is good for the mind and body,” the leader announced. “This is only day one of our exercises. I will find us many more.” Her friends groaned and fell on the ground. Aisha still didn’t get it.

“What?” she asked.

“Shut up, ya plick!” Clyde screamed. Aisha shook her head.

“You all are hopeless,” she muttered. “I clearly got my work cut out for me.”

“Shut up!” they all cried.
