Outside the Palace

“See you tomorrow,” Mosh called.

“See ya!” Moony said back. The two boys parted for the evening. Moony glanced over his shoulder. His friend was going to be in paradise tonight. The other boy shook his head.

Some guys have all the luck, he thought. Mosh had a hot older girlfriend living with him. Noiz looked like the ideal woman. Moony stopped in his tracks.

-Moony-

I don’t understand it. How the hell did Mosh land a woman like that? He’s just an average guy too? I lowered my head. I just don’t get it! Is this some sort of a joke being played on me? It’s not funny if it is.

I walked all the way to the subway station and sighed. I’m nineteen years old and still single. I never have kept a single girlfriend in my life. Oh, crushes came and went in my life, but they never formed lasting relationships. Mosh used to be like me until he met Noiz. I smiled as an image of her entered my mind. My cheeks grew warm at the thought of seeing her lovely round face.

Noiz-tan…

I used to think it was dangerous for mouse boys to go out with cat girls. She somehow makes it look sexy. I only met his girlfriend once. Magically, that was all it took for me to fall for her. Those black cat ears and tail look so cute on her. I heard she wore kimono and yukata, but on that day she wore a sundress. Either way, she looked just as pretty. Plus, she makes her money and is a headmistress of this school called Tokyo-Zion Academy. On top of that, the woman is really sweet and smart. He told me that she had two degrees under her belt. Oh, Noiz-tan sounds like the perfect woman! A tug on my jeans drew me back to reality. I glanced down to see a little boy looking up at me with big eyes.

“Yeah?” I asked.

“Are you feeling okay, mister?” he asked. I blinked at him for a long moment.

“Huh?” I asked.

“Your face is all red,” the kid said. I turned and looked at the window of the subway as the doors slid closed. I looked redder than a tomato.

“Oh…” I mumbled. The mother had to drag the kid back to her lap and the train took off towards home. I kept my head down for practically the whole trap. Why do beautiful women make men put in stupid situation like that? I won’t be able to stop thinking about her either. She’s started to take over my dreams as well. I shook my head and groaned.

“Is something wrong, son?” an old man next to me asked. I glanced up at him through my hands to him giving me a concerned look. I glanced back down at my hands as my face turned even redder.

“I’m fine,” I mumbled, “Don’t mind me.”

“You sure?” he asked.

“Yes,” I said loudly, “Please leave me alone.” The old man drew back, uncertain of my answer.

“Okay…” he muttered. I really wanted to sink into the ground and disappear. Damn you, Mosh, I thought, Why do you have all of the luck?
