Sleep to Dream

Dwight and Olivia dated for about eight months. It was good in the beginning. But then, Olivia, or Liv as he called her, started to show some problems. She would call and leave many texts messages day and night. If he didn’t respond back in time, the messages would become angry. Dwight lost count of how many voices Liv left screaming her head off. She wanted to be with him all of the time. Liv one time even followed him to the bathroom. Yeah, it was that bad. She didn’t try to alienate him from his friends, but Liv always looked jealous around them. By November, Dwight couldn’t take it anymore.

“I don’t know what to do,” he complained. “She’s driving me crazy. I can’t get her to stop calling me all the time.” Josie looked at him and snorted.

“What do you want me to do out about?” she asked.

“What should I do?” he asked.

“Dump the crazy bitch,” Josie said.

“What?” her intern asked.

“You heard me,” his boss said. “Dump the crazy bitch! She’s clearly not worth it! You’re better off getting rid of her.” Dwight sat there, blinking.

“You really think so?” he asked.

“Do you want to be stuck with her forever?” Josie asked. Dwight quickly shook my head,

“No!” he shouted.

“I didn’t think so,” she said.

The next day, Dwight called Liv out to the campus coffee shop. He decided to let her down gently. Do this a quickly as possible. They got a table near the window. Liv was all smiles this morning. Dwight took a deep breath. Maybe he could get this over with.

“Listen, Liv,” he said. “I just can’t see you anymore.” She gave him a confused look.

“What?” she asked. Dwight pressed his hands against the table.

“I think we should break up,” he said. Her eyes grew big.

“What?!” she asked.

“I can’t see you anymore,” Dwight said. “You are just too crazy. I can’t take it anymore. You call me day and night. You try to follow around everywhere. You are scaring me when you get angry. I…” He buried his head in his hands.

“You are just too stressful,” the intern said. Liv’s eyes started to well up with tears.

“You’re breaking up with me?!” she cried. “You’re breaking up with me?!”

“Yes,” Dwight said.

“No!” she screamed. “No! No! No! No! No! No!” Liv started getting louder and beating on the table. Her now-ex tried to shush her.

“Don’t cause a scene,” he whispered.

“You can’t leave me!” Liv shouted. “I’ll make you stay with me!”

“See? This is what I am talking about,” Dwight said. “It’s over. Goodbye.” He paid his share of the bill and ran off while she broke down, crying. Should have been easy, right?

If only that was the case.

It started up with the calls again. Even though Dwight blocked her number, she wouldn’t take a hint. Liv kept calling and begging him to take her back.

“Please stop calling me,” Dwight pleaded.

“But I love you!” she begged.

“Enough already! We’re over! Stop calling me!” he yelled.

“Baby!”

“Stop calling me that!” Dwight hung up before she could say another word. He went a step further and blocked her number. The harassment and torture didn’t stop there.

One week later, Dwight dragged himself over to Josie’s desk. Josie looked up from her sake.

“Rough day?” she asked. Her intern groaned and flopped down in the chair next to him. She tilted her head.

“That bad with the ex?” she asked. Dwight turned his head, frowning.

“Spare me!” he wailed. “Liv’s a nightmare! She won’t stop calling and texting me. I have blocked her from everywhere. She still manages to find me through social media. I see her driving by apartment every night. You’ve heard the rumors about me?”

“Yeah,” Josie said.

“Well, it’s much worse,” Dwight said. “She’s gone to vandalism. She trashed up my moped.” He buried his head in hands.

“I’m worried that she’s going break into my apartment and trash it or kill me,” he said. Josie raised her eyebrow.

“Want me to do something about it?” she asked. Dwight stared at her with big eyes.

“You would do that?” he asked.

“Yeah, yeah,” Josie said. “I’m only doing this because I never like Liv anyway.” Usually, Dwight would try to defend his ex. Not this time. He quickly bowed his head.

“Oh thank you! Thank you!” he cried. “I don’t know what to do anymore! Thank you so much!” Josie lifted his head.

“Right…” she said. He was an idiot, but Liv had to go.
