Dividing Lines

The couple faced another crisis. Kurai and Akitada sat on their bed.

“I have to go back to Heaven,” he said.

“No,” Kurai whimpered.

“But I have to,” Akitada said.

“No,” she said again. He took her by the hand.

“Kurai-chan,” the angel mouse said.

“No!” she shouted. Tears started to form in her eyes.

“Aw, come here,” he said. The angel mouse pulled her into his arms. “Don’t cry.”

“I’m not,” Kurai said. “You are!” Akitada shook his head.

“You’re not making any sense,” he said.

“Shut up!” his fiancée yelled. “Don’t go!” The demon kitty broke down crying. Akitada just held her. He could feel his heart breaking.

Beth, Alice, and Ursula sat across from Gabriel in Heaven.

“You think this is a good idea?” Alice asked.

“We have no choice,” Gabriel said. “If he stays down there any longer, Akitada will die.”

“But…” Alice said. The other angels looked at her. She shrugged.

“What about Kurai?” she asked. “She can’t come to Heaven and she won’t let him go no matter what.” The angels remained silent.

“This is true,” Ursula said.

“So… what do we do?” Alice asked. No one spoke at first.

“Separating them won’t work,” Beth pointed out.

“Yes,” Gabriel said. The wheels in his head started to turn. Alice raised her eyebrow.

“Gabriel,” she said. The angel official lifted his head.

“Hm?” he asked. Alice leaned forward.

“What are you planning now?” she asked. The lone male angel looked at his colleagues. He resisted the urge to smile.

“Oh, I have something to fix all of our problems,” Gabriel said.

“Huh?” the girls asked. The lone male rose to his feet.

“Come along and you shall see,” he said. Alice, Beth, and Ursula all looked at each other. The wheels turned in Gabriel’s head.
