Long Sleepless Night
Kurai awoke to feel the other side of the bed empty. The demon kitty lifted her
head.
“Hm?” she asked. Kurai looked around the room.
“Akitada-kun?” she asked. The demon kitty saw the bedroom door opened a crack.
Curious, she wandered out into the hall. She found Akitada standing on the deck
of their boat, looking at the sky. His girl wandered outside.
“Akitada-kun?” she asked. The angel mouse turned his head.
“Hm?” he asked.
“What are you doing out here?” I asked.
“Can’t sleep,” Akitada said.
“You can’t sleep?” she asked. The demon kitty walked over to his side.
“What’s wrong?” she asked. Her boyfriend shook his head.
“Nothing really,” he said. She put her arms around his shoulders.
“Talk to me,” Kurai said. He patted her on the head.
“I’m just thinking,” Akitada said.
“About what?” she asked. The angel mouse shrugged.
“Many things. Life, the living realm, us, our future.”
“What about them?”
Akitada shrugged. “How do I put this?” She nuzzled him on the cheek. Her
boyfriend rubbed hers.
“You are part of my future,” he said. “I love you and you are part of my
future.” Kurai’s cheeks bright pink.
“I’m flattered,” she muttered.
“What about you?”
“Hm?”
“Am I part of your future?”
“Of course you are!”
“Do you really mean that?”
Kurai gave him a strange look. “What are you talking about? Where is this coming
from? Did those angel bitches say something to you?”
Akitada shook his head. “It’s not that.”
“What is it?”
He rested his hand on hers. “I just really love you.”
“I love you too.” The demon kitty trembled.
“What’s the matter?” Akitada asked. Kurai pressed her lips together.
“You’re scaring me,” she said. He raised his eyebrow.
“Why is that?” the angel mouse asked. Kurai slowly shook her head.
“Oh… you never had to think about things like that, have you?”
“No…” Kurai lowered her eyes.
“It didn’t matter to me,” she said. “I just did what I wanted. I didn’t care
about what or who I hurt.” The demon kitty sighed.
“Then, I met you,” she said. “When I think about it, it scares me.”
“Why is that?”
“I have to care now. I don’t mean to sound like I’m complaining. It’s all just
to foreign. To me. I… I… I just don’t know how to do any of this.” Akitada
gently caressed her cheek.
“That’s how love is,” he whispered. “You have to keep trying to figure it out.”
“But…” Kurai said. Akitada turned to face her.
“We’ll figure it out together,” he said.
“Akitada-kun…” his girl said. The angel mouse kissed her. She felt like melting
in his kiss. Kurai’s heart did little flips in her chest. The couple slowly
pulled away.
“I love you,” she said. Her cheeks turned bright red.
“I love you too,” Akitada said. She pressed her forehead against his. She still
felt scared but figuring out love sounded so exciting.
“I want you in my future,” Kurai said. Akitada couldn’t help but smile.
“Marry me,” he said. The angel mouse held up his hand before she could speak.
“Not now,” he said. “When you’re ready.” Kurai relaxed and smiled.
“Yes,” she said.
“Thank you,” Akitada said. They shared another kiss in the long night.
