Chapter Eleven: Love Boost:
Some days are hard. Noiz doesn’t feel like getting out of bed today. Mosh rolled over next to her.
“What’s the matter?” he whispered. His wife shook her head.
“I don’t want to get up,” she whimpered. Mosh took note in the way that she said that. He held her to his chest.
“Why not?” he whispered. Noiz shook her head. He kissed her on the cheek.
“I really want to help you here,” he said, “But I can’t if you won’t talk to me.”
“Can you please just leave me alone?” the kitty asked. Mosh shook his head.
“I can’t do that,” he murmured. His wife glanced up at him.
“Mosh-kun?” she asked. He planted a little kiss on her lips.
“Shhh,” the mouse boy whispered. “If you don’t want to get up yet, I’ll stay here with you.” His wife looked rather surprised to hear this.
“Mosh-kun?” she asked again. He brushed aside some hair from her cheek. It hurt to see her so vulnerable like this. The mouse boy placed his hand over her belly. The due date was estimated to be in June this year. He decided not to mention anything about their unborn child when she was down like this. Work wasn’t a good topic to talk about either. Mosh pressed his lips together. Maybe it’s best not to talk at all, he thought.
The mouse glanced over at the clock. Ten a.m. already?, he thought. It sure didn’t feel like it. Last night, he talked to Aden about this little problem over the phone.
“Run that by me again,” she told him. Mosh lowered his head as he stayed hidden in the bathroom.
“She’s been really down lately and I don’t know how to help her,” he said.
“Down how?” Aden asked.
“Pre-baby blues,” the mouse explained.
“Pre-baby blues?” she asked.
“Something like that,” the husband answered.
“So what exactly are you asking of me?” the fox woman asked. Mosh lied back on the bathroom floor with the phone to his ear.
“I don’t know how to help her,” he admitted in a whisper.
“So why call me?” Aden asked.
“Well, you’re a woman and I figured you would know what to do in a situation like this,” the mouse boy told her.
“Uh-huh,” she said.
“Please help?” he pleaded. Aden sighed over the line.
“Fine,” she said. “I think it’s best that you leave her alone at the moment.” Mosh sat up with wide eyes.
“But…” he began.
“Look,” the fox woman cut in, “There isn’t much you can do for your beloved cat when she’s like this. Just stay by her side and do what you can to keep her happy.”
“So basically like cooking, foot massages, and things like that?” the mouse asked.
“Pretty much,” Aden answered. “Anything else?” Mosh smiled to himself a little as he shook his head.
“No, I’m good,” he said. ‘Thanks, Aden.”
“You’re welcome,” she replied. Remembering all of that this morning, the mouse boy gave his pregnant wife another kiss on the cheek.
“When you awake up, I’ll make you some lunch,” he whispered. This would have to do for now, but at least he could be of some use to the wife and baby at times like these.
